Packing slip, delivery note, invoice: what is the difference

They get used interchangeably and they should not be:

DocumentShows prices?Goes where
Packing slipNoInside the box, for checking contents
Delivery noteUsually noWith the driver, signed on receipt
InvoiceYesTo accounts, to be paid

The reason a packing slip has no prices is practical: the person unpacking the box is a warehouse worker, not the buyer, and the buyer often does not want their staff seeing what they paid. This template shows quantities and units, no money.

Why it is an Excel file

Because the interesting part is a table of lines, and tables are what spreadsheets are for. It prints on one page, and if you need to add columns — batch numbers, serial numbers, weights — you just add them.

One number, both sides

The delivery note number is the single most useful field on the page. When a box arrives short, the conversation is "delivery note DN-20260806-011, line 3" — not "the one from Tuesday". Number them per shipment, never per customer, and never reuse.
